Mid-Size Company Consulting & Advisory

Midsized Enterprises Division

Improving Market Value

The Business Lab Midsized Enterprises Division (“MED”) exists to improve the market value and sustainability of medium sized companies. It does this by fixing major business challenges and applying measures to improve a company’s short and long-term profitability.

MED’s target market include clients with challenges and complexities that traditional turnaround consultants would not be willing to navigate.

What makes us different?

The Business Lab MED focuses medium sized organisations that are not in a position to afford exorbitant fees. The Business Lab MED focuses on three key areas:

1. Companies that are not producing satisfactory results.

2. The fix to sell service. With appropriate remedial action, improving a company to an extent where it can be can be sold for a far higher price.

3. Companies in distress or on the brink of liquidation.

Most of all, The Business Lab MED differentiates itself by keeping a strong focus on the long-term sustainability of the company. All too often specialists perform quick fixes at the expense of the company’s long term success.

How We Work

Although each client is viewed on its own merits, the process is based on three fundamentals:

1. Scoping:

The team will meet with the client’s staff at all levels gaining a thorough understanding of the organisation and its challenges. This process usually takes one to three weeks.

2. Designing: Having obtained the facts the team will work out the most effective approach to restoring the company. Sometimes it is necessary to perform immediate crisis management concurrently with this steps one and two.

3. Delivering: Once the client has agreed to the proposed strategy, they can either implement it themselves or engage us to implement the solution for them.

The average duration of the execution phase is 3 months although this can vary. After the implementation phase our team will be available to provide ad-hoc support consulting and advisory. We believe this model is cost effective without sacrificing results.

What about the New Companies Act?

The new Companies Act provides a clearly articulated company rescue process. Although The Business Lab MED will use these provisions whenever appropriate, they do hold significant disadvantages. For example, distressed companies are required to provide a full disclosure of their financial standing to their staff and creditors. As a result clients may move their business elsewhere resulting in the further decline of the distressed business.
